Description
Preljocaj: MC14/22 (Ceci est mon corps) / Le Songe de Médée
Angelin Preljocaj and Mauro Lanza join forces to produce two spiritual and carnal ballets: MC 14/22 (Ceci est mon corps) and Le Songe de Médée.
This double bill from one of the world’s leading choreographers offers two of his major works, danced by the Paris Opera Ballet. The dreamlike Songe de Médée, with music by Mauro Lanza and freely based on the Greek myth of Medea, explores a woman’s soul, portraying her, paradoxically, as a tender loving mother and a tormented victim who sacrifices everything, including her children, for love.
MC14/22 (Ceci est mon corps) is a meeting of the spiritual and the carnal, drawing on St Mark’s version of The Last Supper in the Bible: ‘Take, eat: this is my body’. Created for twelve male dancers, Preljocaj’s ‘Apostles of Movement’, and with soundscapes by Tedd Zahmal, this powerfully sensual and passionate work is a hymn to the male body, stripped down to its deepest reality, juxtaposing the glorification of strength and the condemnation of force.

“Marie-Agnès Gillot in the title role is impressive not only because she is the tallest woman in the company, but also through the amplitude of her movements. Eleonora Abbagnato has more lyrical steps, while Wilfried Romoli’s stern visage softens occasionally when dancing with Abbagnato. The handmade score by Mauro Lanza is played by the Ensemble Court-Circuit (short circuit) but has passed through the arms of the IRCAM Computer Music Designer, Serge Lemouton.” – FANFARE

Founded as a production company by Hans Petri in 1999, Opus Arte released its first DVD in 2001. From the outset, the label has been releasing recordings from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, one of the closest and longest-standing relationships they have had. So much so that in 2007 the ROH acquired Opus Arte, which in turn became their in-house DVD label. In 2018 the label joined the Naxos family, although its continues to work very closely with the ROH and maintains its base of operations at the Royal Opera House in London.
Opus Arte now boasts a catalogue of over 800 programmes, including recordings in 4K, 3-D and Dolby ATMOS, and was one of the first labels to release high definition content on Blu-ray. They proudly associate with many of the world’s finest arts organisations, which aside from the Royal Opera House includes Glyndebourne, Dutch National Opera & Ballet, Teatro Real, Bayreuth, Shakespeare’s Globe and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
As of 2024, Naxos, Opus Arte and Bel Air Classiques have agreed to pull their resources together to further highlight their shared values of artistic excellence, innovation and transmission.
